The park is easily accessible from Arusha, either by road or charter flight. The main gate is located approximately 30 kilometers west of Arusha.
The primary activities are hiking and trekking on the various trails, as well as wildlife viewing, birdwatching, and exploring the Meru Crater.
The Mount Meru hike is considered moderately challenging, suitable for fit and experienced trekkers. The trek typically takes 3-4 days to reach the summit.
Essential items include sturdy hiking boots, lightweight, breathable clothing, rain gear, sun protection, and a warm jacket for the higher elevations.
The dry season from June to October is generally considered the best time to visit, with more favorable trekking conditions and increased wildlife activity.
There are no strict age limits, but the trekking and hiking activities do require a moderate to high level of fitness and stamina. Children under 12 may have difficulty with the hikes.
It’s recommended to book your visit at least 3-6 months in advance, especially during the peak trekking season, to ensure availability of accommodations and permits.
